Organising next seminars with Suzanne and John etc. People identified?

Next team meeting: Thu. 11 July, 11am-12pm?

Action points:

  • Angela to prepare email invitation (also to be sent to ILRI Addis staff, ILRI Campus scientists and get Terry Abira to send it out in the afternoon. This invitation should definitely urge all staff in Addis and Nairobi to attend.
  • Susan to contact DDGs about identifying scientists from their team to organise upcoming seminars (2-3 new scientists for every seminar so we progressively build interest for these seminars).
  • Susan will also invite directors, team leaders etc. by forwarding the email invitation which Angela will be working on.
  • Tezira to discuss with Jane and co-opt her to lead this + get final confirmation from Jane
  • Ewen to follow up with Peter Thorne for possible seminar on Africa RISING/ sustainable intensification

Next seminar

All pretty much under control, JVC booked, team prepared. Some actions to take place still: Action point: Angela to prepare email invitation (also to be sent to ILRI Addis staff, ILRI Campus scientists and get Terry Abira to send it out in the afternoon. This invitation should definitely urge all staff in Addis and Nairobi to attend. Tezira contacted Klaus Butterbach-Wahl who's happy to do a seminar on 14 August. He's got a title and a moderator to help with this seminar which he wants as 'interactive' (though that's not an option anymore). Until Silvia comes back and perhaps attends to this presentation, Jane Gitau should take care of this. Action point: Tezira to discuss with Jane and co-opt her to lead this + get final confirmation from Jane

September

Action point: Ewen to follow up with Peter Thorne for possible seminar on Africa RISING/ sustainable intensification

October

This would be the first month when scientists under DDG teams would be organising the seminar with our support.

In the future we might want to progressively get into coaching the speakers, insisting on having their presentation done one month before and more rehearsals done before to ensure very good quality, as circulated in the link from Susan's post on public speaking (TED Talk experience) - which Tezira could also share with Isabelle and Gerald for next week's seminar.
